the computer i am using used to be hooked up near s-video, but i formatted it and now when i jump into the "display" part of control panel nearby is no sign of it and i can't work out how to get the picture accross.
here is no "function" button like on laptops on the top of my upright and i can't find anywhere on my computer. any suggestions on how i can get it working?

sounds similar to u need a driver for ur video card... depending on what brand of computer ur using u may know how to download it off the internet....
If Ur running window xp....click on start- right click on my computer- click on manage- then device official on the side- click on the plus next to display adapters- consequently double click on ur video card- click the driver tab in the brand new window- then click the update driver- within the new glass click yes this time only to connect to the internet- later next twice- next follow the rest of the wizard... hope i helped
You may involve an up to date driver.
To extend the desktop on to another screen right click on the desktop dance in to settings and from the drop down box contained by the centre choose the other pick. This should allow you to extend the desktop on to the other monitor which in this defence is your TV.
If you need both screen to show the same you would call for to download the driver and software for the graphics card
